Rhinoplasty: complications and postoperative rehabilitation
Complications of Rhinoplasty
Rhinoplasty, ie plastic surgery to change the shape of the nose, is one of the most commonly performed plastic surgery.
Unfortunately, like any surgical procedure, complications are possible after rhinoplasty. According to statistics, there are complications after rhinoplasty in 8-15% of cases. These complications are divided into two groups:
• Aesthetic;
• Function.
The group of aesthetic complications include different types of unwanted deformation of the nose (beak deformity; omitted or too tip-tilted nose saddle nose deformity, and others.).
Aesthetic complications naturally grieve the patient, causing him moral, not physical damage. If the patient categorically refuses to accept the aesthetic complications, rhinoplasty is performed again, but not earlier than one year.
More serious is the case with functional complications. These include perforation of the nasal septum, the gap between the ethmoid bone, abscess or hematoma of the nasal septum, toxic shock syndrome, as well as the deterioration of the airway. Functional complications require immediate treatment or surgical removal.
Postoperative rehabilitation
Rehabilitation after rhinoplasty continues for several months. Day after the operation the patient should be in a hospital, under medical supervision.
On the face of the patient in the nose and eyelids inevitably arise post-operative swelling, bruising under the eyes. In the first 1-2 days of swelling even increases and then begins to subside. The shape of the nose in the first days of distorted due to edema, and judge on the final shape of the nose can be only 2-3 weeks after surgery when the swelling disappears completely. However, in some cases, a slight swelling of the nose is maintained up to 3-4 months.
To speed up the rehabilitation process for 2-3 days after surgery are starting to do physiotherapy and rubbing into the skin and anti-inflammatory ointment decongestants.
Hot food and drinks are excluded for 2 weeks. Physical activity is undesirable for 3-4 months. Wearing glasses requires consultation with the doctor, because pressure spectacles on nose can distort the shape of the nose.
Women doctors are strongly advised to avoid becoming pregnant within one year after rhinoplasty. The remaining restrictions are lifted after six months after surgery, rehabilitation period is over.
The result of rhinoplasty is stable and persists for life.
