Indications for hysterectomy:
1. Cancer of the reproductive system
This uterine cancers, cervical, endometrial, or fallopian tubes. In the case of cancer hysterectomy is the most appropriate type of treatment. In the presence of metastasis surgery combined with chemotherapy and radiation.
2. Uterine fibroids
It is a benign tumor with a diameter typically less than a few centimeters. In advanced cases, the tumor can grow strongly and reach a weight of several kilograms. The most common symptoms are abundant menstruation fibroids, which can lead to anemia and abdominal pain and a feeling of pressure on the bladder.
Hysterectomy radically solves the problem. But if the fibroids are asymptomatic and grows slowly apply more sparing treatment of the disease, such as drug therapy or uterine artery embolization.
3. Endometriosis
This tissue overgrowth of the uterine lining outside - ovaries, tubes, abdominal organs, and others. Manifested endometriosis cyclic or constant pelvic pain, long and heavy menstrual periods, pain during copulation, defecation and emptying of the bladder, infertility.
Drug therapy for endometriosis is ineffective. Therefore, the main method of treatment of this disease is laparoscopic surgery, during which removed endometriosis (eg, ovary). If this does not bring the desired result, there is only a hysterectomy.
The above diseases are the most common reasons for hysterectomy. In addition hysterectomy may be imposed for serious violations of the menstrual cycle and hardly proceeding inflammatory gynecological diseases. Also, hysterectomy may be a means of treating some forms of pelvic pain arising from the uterus. However, surgery does not always solve the problem.
