Blepharoplasty is almost as old as the world itself! Even the patriarch of Medicine, Avicenna, who lived in the X century BC, mentioned operation on centuries as an effective surgical technique elimination of excess skin on the upper eyelid to improve visibility. For these purposes, this operation today.

Mention of operations to remove excess eyelid skin and occurs in a number of Indian medical treatises. However, after Avicenna in the history of blepharoplasty suffered a serious failure, and just before the end of the XVIII century of such operations is not found no mention in the medical literature. But already in 1792 in Vienna published medical work describing reconstructive surgery on the eyelids after the removal of tumors. At the time, blepharoplasty considered reconstructive surgery performed only for the restoration of a century after the removal of tumors or tissue damage. It was only later it became positioned as the operation to remove a cosmetic defect associated with the aging process of the upper and lower eyelids.

After the intervention was not always possible to achieve the desired appearance.

Removal of fat during blepharoplasty was first performed in 1929, surgeon J. Bourguet. Greatly facilitated the work of plastic surgeons of the future and thorough work of Jose Castanares, who made a complete description of the structure and location of fat on the eyelids.
